Personal Difficulties
Medical school can be a very frightening and overwhelming experience at the onset, and many students will question their ability to survive its many rigors and challenges. Rush offers a comprehensive network of counselors and tutors to help guide you down the road to successful completion of your medical training or to aid in answering more specific psycho-social questions. These resources are FREE OF CHARGE!!!! Don't be embarrassed or ashamed to use these resources. They are confidential, and most students have used at least one of the following sometime during their medical school career (and the rest of them should have). The most capable students are those who recognize when they need help themselves. Don’t wait until you have already had a near miss in your coursework before utilizing these resources. Even if you think you already know what a counselor is going to say to you, you may need to hear it anyway from another independent person in order to help you make the necessary changes. Rush University Counseling Center The Rush University Counseling Center provides professional counseling for Rush students.
· Any type of counseling you need is free. This will probably be the last time in your life that you can get such wonderful counseling for free, so take advantage of it. If you need assistance beyond what the Counseling Center can provide, they can put you in contact with a specialist who will also provide free care.
· You can discuss anything with a counselor, including academic problems, anxiety, insomnia, relationship difficulties, career questions, parenting concerns, depression, substance abuse, and anything else that's on your mind.
· If you do not like the counselor who you are assigned to initially, request a different one–and give it a true effort before rejecting this resource.
· The Counseling Center can generally schedule a session for you within a few days after you contact them. Same day appointments are also occasionally possible.
· College and university administrators have no access to any record of your contact with the Counseling Center, and all discussions with Counseling Center staff are completely confidential.
