Just a bit of history: I built the old CMDA website during my summer break following my M1 year in 2006 using Microsoft Publisher, which was the only web publishing software that I had ready access to. The old site can still be accessed here. On the old site, we had a "Prayer Column" where people contributed encouraging Christian quotes and scriptural verses. Here is what was contributed this year, 2007:
“I often make the mistake of seeing people (and their interruptions) as the problem with my job. Dr. Jesus never forgot that people and their concerns were the purpose of his life.”—Dr. David Stevens in Jesus M.D.
Our peace and confidence are to be found not in our empirical holiness, not in our progress toward perfection, but in the alien righteousness of Jesus Christ that covers our sinfulness and alone makes us acceptable before a holy God.”—Donald Bloesch
"Though afflicted, tempest tossed,
Comfortless awhile thou art,
Do not think thou can be lost,
Thou art graven on My heart;
All thy wastes I will repair;
Thou shalt be rebuilt anew;
And in thee it shall appear
What the God of love can do."
—John Newton, 1779
“It is good for me, Lord, that Thou hast humbled me, that I may learn Thy righteous judgements, and may cast away all haughtiness of heart and all presumption.” –Thomas a Kempis
“Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.” —C.S. Lewis
“Everybody thinks of changing humanity, but nobody thinks of changing himself.” - Leo Tolstoy
“But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”— Exodus 9:16
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present and well-proved help in trouble.” -Psalm 46:1
“I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches. If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise, since everyone suffers. To suffering must be added mourning, understanding, patience, love, openness, and the willingness to remain vulnerable.” —Joseph Addison
“For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God…” I Corinthians 3:19
“And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain, so that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come and not delay.” —Habakkuk 2:2-3
“God didn't save you to make you happy. That's a by-product. He saved you to make you holy. You were predestinated to be conformed to the image of God's Son.” —Vince Havner
