For Previous Users of our Internet Class Calendar:
Each time we do this we learn a better way to do things. For example, if any of you were using the GCalendar/Internet Calendar RMStudents hosted last quarter and you added the calendar as a feed, you do not need to do anything to add a calendar this Spring quarter. This quarter we made it so your current calendars will update in the next few hours (for Google Calendar it may not be ready until Saturday) and you'll be ready to go next quarter. This includes the smaller preceptor group calendar!
For anyone who did not use the calendar last quarter and would like to this quarter, OR if you already deleted the old calendars, follow the instructions below:
First, choose how you want your Calendar to work: Feed or Local
As always before you add your calendar to your calendar client (Gmail/Google Calendar, Outlook, iCal, etc.) you need to decide if you want the calendar to be a feed or stored locally (on your computer or your Gmail account). Note: if you plan on using your calendar with an iPod Touch or iPhone, we recommend you first add the calendar to the Gmail/Gcalendar.
The difference is a feed will always read the calendar from RMStudents.com, whereas a locally stored calendar will copy the calendar into your account and never check RMStudents for updates again.

Notice in the diagram above how the feed calendar periodically (every hour, every 24 hours, it depends on your client) requests RMStudents for an "update," and if it finds that there is a change in the RMStudents calendar then it also updates itself to match the change. The local copy does not do that.
The advantage of a local copy, however, is that you can make changes yourself if you need to whereas the feed is a read-only copy. Still you can always add a different calendar in your client so that your school calendar and your personal calendar or workout calendar are different.
I recommend Feed.
Next, Choose 2 Calendars:
Normally we put all preceptor groups into the one class calendar. Now we separate preceptor-group specific events from general classes to make it easier for you to see only the classes that are relevant to you. However you will need to use two calendars for this to work: the class calendar and then your preceptor group calendar. Of course there are no restritions and if you need you can add every group's calendar, maybe if you are a leader in some organization and need to see everyone's availability at once. Whatever client you use (iCal, Outlook, Gmail), you can always turn a calendar on or off.
