A Note on Passwords

By looking at the logs over the past few weeks, I have noticed quite a few users are having trouble remembering what their password is. After attempting to log in a few times, they use the "Request new password" feature to reset their password. No big deal, except maybe some frustration for you. If you'd like to avoid that, keep reading.

If you're anything like me, you've got a set of passwords that you use whenever you create an online account, depending on how complex the password needs to be and how safe you feel your information is on a particular site. I just thought I'd take this opportunity to point out that Drupal (the software that runs this site) is pretty darn secure, and it's constantly being updated to improve security. In particular, your passwords are one-way encrypted to an MD5 hash. What's my point? I just wanted to assure anyone who is hesitant to use one of their "regular passwords" that the few of us who have access to the backend of the website aren't sitting back here browsing passwords. Even if we wanted to waste our time doing that, all passwords are stored as encrypted without the ability to decrypt them. So breathe easy and feel free to use a password you're comfortable with.

Now as far as remembering your username, I don't know how to help with that one. If you need it changed to something easier for you to remember, contact us and we'll help you out.
