Below are some issues and more thorough responses (when I don't have to think on my feet). Feel free to add comments, concerns or questions in the comments. I'll add to this if new issues come up.
- At the meeting (or in the video) the group web page you make comes out to be http://rmstudents.com/node/106. Is this what my group's web address is going to be like? No, this was a glitch. I had something configured wrong on the backend. Your group website address will be automatically generated from the name of your group. For example, the new (fixed) web address for the Group Leaders group is http://rmstudents.com/group/group-leaders . You will need to go to the Groups Directory and click on your group's name to get the exact web address of your group web page.
- I'd like to use the website in place of emailing people all the time, but not everyone checks the website and at least if I email things to them I know it gets there (even if they don't read it). Yeah, this is one of the reasons we're suggesting a weekly newsletter that contains info for all groups who have stuff to email for the week. This way we can reduce the 10 groups emailing people every week to one email with lots of info. If you'd like to continue mass emailing people, consider making your email a short summary (or even just an event title) followed by a link to a post you've made on the website with more info. This will make people more comfortable with checking the website (and your group's webpage) for information. If more students use the website regularly, it will be less necessary to mass email people.
- The weekly newsletter is a good idea, but you're placing another deadline on medical students. Good point, but no one's really requiring you to use it. If you miss the deadline, we can't stop you from mass emailing everyone as usual. But hopefully as more and more groups start using the newsletter, students will understand its worth. People may start to get annoyed that you keep mass emailing everyone while all the other groups are kind enough to use the newsletter. This might make you more conscious of the deadline help you remember next time. But in the end, we're hoping that people rely more on checking the website to find out information than from an email. This way you could post info on the website whenever you want without worrying about deadlines.
